Position: Facilities/Exhibits Manager

Summary: The Facilities/Exhibits Manager oversees the maintenance, functionality, and daily appearance of the Museum’s building, grounds, and exhibits. This role combines hands-on facilities work, project coordination, and team leadership. The Manager will supervise the housekeeping department, collaborate with exhibit designers and educators, and ensure that all spaces and experiences meet PCM’s high standards for safety, accessibility, and playfulness.

Reports to: Director of Finance and Operations

Status: Full-time, Benefits Eligible 

Schedule: Monday to Friday (but can be flexible for the right candidate)

Starting Salary: $60,000 – $65,000 (DOE)

Primary responsibilities:

Facilities Management

• Oversee day-to-day facility operations, including building maintenance, repairs, safety compliance, and vendor coordination.
• Develop and implement preventative maintenance schedules for HVAC, electrical, plumbing, and other building systems.
• Serve as primary point of contact for facility-related emergencies and after-hours needs.
• Ensure compliance with safety, ADA, and regulatory standards.

Exhibits Maintenance & Support 

• Maintain, repair, and improve hands-on exhibits to ensure safe and meaningful visitor experiences.
• Coordinate installation, deinstallation, and refurbishment of exhibits.
• Work closely with the vendors to troubleshoot mechanical and technical issues.
• Track exhibit maintenance needs and prioritize repairs.

Housekeeping Department Management

• Supervise and schedule housekeeping staff to ensure the Museum is clean, organized, and visitor-ready each day.
• Establish best practices for cleanliness, sanitation, and safety across all spaces.
• Train staff in appropriate procedures, equipment use, and safe work practices.
• Monitor inventory and order housekeeping supplies and materials.

Project Coordination

• Assist Education team and Museum Leadership in planning and executing capital projects, renovations, and exhibit upgrades.
• Manage contractors, obtain quotes, and track project timelines and budgets.
• Maintain accurate records for facility systems, repairs, inspections, and maintenance.

Qualifications:

Required

• 3+ years of experience in facilities, building operations, maintenance, or a related field.
• Demonstrated ability to supervise staff and manage daily operational workflows.
• Mechanical aptitude and proficiency with hand tools, power tools, and basic repairs.
• Ability to troubleshoot problems independently and prioritize multiple tasks.
• Strong organizational and communication skills.
• Ability to work some weekends, early mornings, or evenings as needed.

Preferred

• Experience in museums, educational environments, attractions, or hospitality settings.
• Familiarity with exhibit fabrication, carpentry, or basic electrical work.
• Knowledge of OSHA regulations and facility safety practices.
• Bilingual or multilingual skills.

Physical Requirements

• Frequently stand, walk, and move around the museum. 
• Lift/carry/push/pull heavy materials, equipment, and objects that could weigh up to 50 lbs., climb ladders, and perform tasks that require bending, kneeling, twisting, or standing for extended periods.
• The ability to work in tight or cramped spaces
• Comfort working with tools, equipment, and machinery typical of building and exhibit maintenance.
