Rhode Island’s Elementary School Educators (PreK-4th) are invited to apply for PCM’s 2nd Annual Playful Practicum. Expand your teaching toolkit, help other teachers by creating standard-aligned resources that promote playful learning, and receive a $1,000 stipend for sharing your thoughts and expertise.

What is it?

Providence Children’s Museum (PCM) is building a library of digital resources, aligned to RIDE standards, that support children’s creative development through open-ended, process-based learning.

Educators will receive in-depth training led by PCM educators on the fundamentals of creativity and play-based learning. They will then collaborate with PCM to create lesson plans that fuel children’s creative thinking and problem-solving abilities. Lessons created through this partnership will be shared via our digital library to educators across local school communities, state-wide, and nationally.

Responsibilities:

  • Participate in PCM’s Playful Practicum 5-part workshop with access to the Museum’s experts while building their own networks of play-based educators.
  • Write 2 standards aligned lesson plans for PCM’s digital library for teachers.
  • Receive approval from their principal to field test activities in their classroom.
  • PCM is excited to work with pairs of teachers from the same school and candidates who demonstrate an interest in embedding playful learning in classroom and hybrid model instruction.

Required Qualifications:

  • Must be a certified teacher currently working in an public or publicly funded charter school in Rhode Island.
  • Must be a current PreK-4th grade teacher
