About Providence Children’s Museum

There’s magic in a building watched over by a dragon. Located in one of the country’s oldest cities with an international reputation for world class design and education, Providence Children’s Museum (PCM) inspires lifelong learning through play, exploration, and creativity for each and every visitor.

Recognizing the importance of self-directed play in development, PCM has been committed to providing open ended play opportunities for families through custom exhibits for over 40 years – first in Pawtucket, RI and later in the current Jewelry District location. With the addition of the Creativity Initiative, PCM seeks to connect all children to Rhode Island’s creative community so that they too can discover design thinking, flex problem solving skills and master the creative process.

Accessibility and innovation are pillars of PCM. All exhibit signage and materials are available in both English and Spanish and 40% of the visitors attend with no or greatly reduced fee. In addition, the Museum maintains partnerships with the Rhode Island Department of Children Youth and Families (DCYF) through the Families Together therapeutic visitation program for separated families, and the Greater Providence Head Start, Learning Clubs and community centers through MuseumCorps, an innovative AmeriCorps program based at PCM.
