Position: Director of Families Together
Reports to: Executive Director
Supervisors: Assistant Director, Clinicians, Office Manager, Program Assistants
Status: Full-time, Non-Exempt
The Director of the Families Together Program leads the Families Together staff in delivering high-quality visitation services to the RI Department of Children, Youth, and Families (DCYF) and the families in their care. The Director of Families Together will set the standards for program delivery, and train and supervise Families Together staff.
Summary: The Director of Families Together provides leadership and direction to all Families Together staff in the planning, development, and management of the program, including clinical supervision, case management, scheduling, and reporting. They will have day-to-day responsibility for planning, implementing, managing, and controlling the financial and operational activities of the program and serve as a thought leader on matters involving visitation, therapeutic play, and children’s mental health.
The Director of Families Together will report directly to the Executive Director and serve on the Museum’s leadership team. This is a highly collaborative position that requires communication and frequent partnership with Exhibits, Education, Development, Communications, and Visitor Experience departments.
Providence Children’s Museum welcomes children and adults of all backgrounds and from all communities. Essential Duties:
Primary Responsibilities:
- Establish program policies, goals, and practices and ensure that these are in keeping with the Museum’s mission and work with DCYF administrators to promote and expand services that meet the needs of DCYF staff and the families they serve.
- Oversee facilitated visits for families at risk and report to DCYF caseworkers and supervisors, Family Court attorneys, and Judges regarding the family’s progress, review all reports sent to DCYF and Family Court Judges.
- Provide clinical supervision for family clinicians who work directly with DCYF-involved families and provide consultation services to DCYF case workers. When necessary, maybe the assigned clinician for a case.
- Supervise the Office Manager and Program Assistants who transport program participants to and from the Museum and Nina’s House (Families Together’s homelike setting for visitations).
- Project and monitor annual program budget, ensuring compliance with grant and contract requirements. Assist in preparing funding proposals for the program.
- Manage Nina’s House, including facilities and vendor relationships.
- Develop and nurture relationships with social services professionals and agencies to position the Museum as a leading resource in play, visitation, and assessment for families in state care. Represent PCM at social service organization meetings and committees.
- Work with Visitor Experience staff to ensure quality visits for program participants.
- Remain current on child and family welfare and management theory and practices and participate in state and federal reviews of program design and practice.
- As part of the Museum’s senior management team, participate in establishing Museum policies and procedures and plans and goals.
Required Qualifications:
- Master’s degree in social work, human development, family counseling, clinical psychology, or related discipline.
- Ten years of clinical experience with clients affected by substance abuse, domestic violence, mental illness, and sexual abuse; experience with child welfare policy and practice on the state and federal level.
- An understanding and appreciation of play and child development.

- A proven track record in managing projects from inception to completion.
- Experience in monitoring grant budgets, managing Federal/State/Foundations & Corporation grants, and reporting requirements.

- A track record as an effective communicator who is articulate and persuasive in written and spoken communications.
- The ability to partner effectively and diplomatically with the Executive Director, peer Directors, and Board members.
- Ability to speak Spanish a plus.
