Position: Families Together Program Assistant (part time)

Families Together is an innovative therapeutic visitation program conducted by Providence Children’s Museum in cooperation with the Rhode Island Department for Children, Youth and Families (DCYF). Families Together provides assessment, permanency planning and therapeutic visitation for parents and children separated by court order due to abuse or neglect.

Families Together Program Assistants transport participants to and from Providence Children’s Museum or its Nina’s House visitation setting, where they make a series of visits facilitated by one of the program’s Family Clinicians. The Program Assistants work closely with Families Together Clinicians, the Program Assistant Director, and the Program Director.

Reports to: Families Together Program Director

Responsibilities:

• Transport Families Together involved children – and in some cases their parents – to and from the Museum or Nina’s House for scheduled visits.

• Engage in active listening during transports.

• Provide crisis intervention if necessary, during transport.

• Schedule and confirm visits with care providers and family members.

• Conduct foster parent interview prior to the child’s participation in the program.

• Map routes to pick-up/drop-off locations.

• Coordinate pick-ups and drop-offs with care providers.

• Record observations of family members seen during transports.

• Assist family clinicians during visits as requested.

• Assist with office work: confirming family visits, record keeping, computer work.

Qualifications:

• Background in human/social services, early childhood development or education, or family studies

• Experience with play/recreation therapy and/or clinical experience with abused or neglected children is extremely helpful

• Bachelor’s degree preferred but not required

• Bilingual (English/Spanish) a plus

• Proficiency with Microsoft Word/Excel

• Childcare experience

• Valid driver’s license and excellent driving record required

• Must be at least 25 years of age

• Must pass all DCYF clearances

• Good safety awareness and judgment, and ability to remain calm under pressure.

• Able to go up and down stairs, sustain periods of prolonged driving, and perform frequent lifting up to 30 pounds.

Schedule: Part-time position, 10-12 hours per week, including Saturdays. Position available immediately.

Compensation: $17.50 per hour.
