Position: Assistant Director, Families Together
Summary: The Assistant Director partners with the Director of Families Together in providing leadership and direction to all Families Together staff in the planning, development, management of the program, including clinical supervision, case management, scheduling and reporting. Assistant Director oversees all referrals made by the Central Referral Unit (CRU) at Department of Children, Youth and Families (DCYF) for visits at Providence Children’s Museum and at the Secondary Location and provides clinical support for the clinicians. The Assistant Director may also carry a caseload of approximately 4 cases. She/he serves as the liaison between Families Together and CRU while working closely with DCYF caseworkers, supervisors, and regional office administrators.
In the absence of the Director, Assistant Director acts in that capacity and makes decisions concerning program operations including matters of staffing and organization. S/he directly and indirectly supervises the work of approximately ten employees.

Status: Full-time, exempt
Schedule: Tuesday-Saturday
Primary responsibilities:
- Provides clinical supervision to the Families Together clinicians
- Provides coverage at the Secondary Location and oversees daily staff routines
- Assigns cases and manages the caseloads of the Families Together clinicians
- Oversees use of FAST (Family Advocacy and Support Tool) and the outcomes
- Manages CRU census
- Screens referrals for Museum/Nina’s House family visitation
- Supervises family visits (in the capacity as a clinician) at the DCYF office, Museum, Secondary Location, community settings & family homes when needed
- Assesses family strengths and needs
- Documents observations
- Works with DCYF case workers, DCYF supervisors, therapists, Family Court staff, legal aides, foster parents, educators, daycare providers, and other members of the treatment team
- Responsible for reviewing court reports as requested by DCYF and Family Court
- Assists the Director with recruitment and onboarding of new staff
- Coordinates professional development opportunities and ensure compliance with all mandatory training requirements.
- Oversees the comprehensive program family visitation schedule
- Attends treatment team meetings to support permanency planning process with FT clinicians (if necessary)
- Knowledge and understanding of available community resources and services
- Knowledge of budgeting and fiscal management
Qualifications
- Clinical experience in child and family social services with a MSW, MA or related degree; Master’s degree required. Licensure preferred but not required (LCSW, LICSW).
- Spanish speaking preferred but not required.
- Experience in child welfare and juvenile justice systems, and parent/child visitation; familiarity with current practices in family systems and child development, substance abuse, domestic violence, mental health, trauma – based disorders.
- Expert organizational and project management skills, with proven ability to prioritize and meet deadlines and manage multiple, complex initiatives through periods of change.
- Ability to work collaboratively with internal and external teams
- A track record as an effective communicator who is articulate and persuasive in written and spoken communications.
Salary: Base salary range for this role is $75,000 – $85,000. Final compensation will be dependent on experience, education, and skill set.
